The IntubationPod was named one of TIME's 2020 Best Inventions.

CINCINNATI (Nov. 19, 2020) –– The IntubationPod™ by Under the Weather® (UTW) was recognized today as one of TIME’s “100 Best Inventions of 2020.”

The IntubationPod™ was featured in the Medical Care category of TIME's 2020 Best Inventions issue, which was published online today with the print edition hitting newsstands Friday, Nov. 20. TIME’s annual list “recognizes 100 groundbreaking inventions that are making the world better, smarter and even a bit more fun.”

The IntubationPod, developed in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, is a lightweight, portable pop-up enclosure which slips over the upper body of a patient laying on a gurney or operating table. The IntubationPod gives an entire medical team the ability to safely access a patient’s head and neck area while serving as a protective barrier from contaminant diffusion by encapsulating potential aerosolized contagions during procedures or treatments.

“We are honored that TIME recognized the value of the IntubationPod,” said Rick Pescovitz, UTW CEO. “When the pandemic started and there were reported shortages of PPE for frontline healthcare workers, I immediately began designing this product, consulting with medical professionals, to help provide additional safety measures for our healthcare workers on the frontlines.”

With two elasticized armholes on the top and zippered windows on each side, the IntubationPod gives an entire medical team additional protection while safely access a patient’s head and neck area, providing an additional barrier against contaminant diffusion.

The IntubationPod was UTW’s first product geared toward the medical field. This patented Pod is unlike other barriers which are expensive, bulky and don’t provide the desired level of encapsulated protection for healthcare professionals nor the flexibility needed during treatment of a patient.

“Few companies are capable of going from concept to a finished, patent-pending product in less than a month,” said Kelly Mahan, UTW president. “Our company was founded on developing innovative solutions, products designed to solve problems. Our growth continues to be fueled by listening, evolving and innovating.”

TIME’s Best Inventions accolade is the second such honor for the IntubationPod this year. In September, the IntubationPod received recognition in Fast Company's “2020 Innovation by Design Awards” under the Health category.

Like all UTW Pods, the IntubationPod has a one-piece wire-frame construction, so it’s flexible, pops open and folds down flat in seconds, with zero assembly required. Priced at $59.99 USD, the IntubationPod is sold exclusively at UTWPods.com.
